What to have ready
The conversation goes faster if you know:
- The brand and rough age of the unit, if you know it — it is on the label
- Whether it runs on gas or electric
- What you are seeing or hearing — dripping, rumbling, no hot water, rusty water
- Whether it sits in the garage, the attic, or a closet
- Roughly when the house was built, if you know
- Who bills you for electricity — Oncor-area retailer or Austin Energy — if you are weighing a heat pump unit
What happens when you call
Worth saying plainly, because it is the thing people are unsure about before they dial.
- Describe the situation. Share the symptom, unit type, location, and any visible leak or error code.
- Answer a few questions. The provider asks what they need to gauge urgency, confirm the address is in their service area, and explain any visit fee.
- A visit gets scheduled. Diagnosis, scope, price, and warranty terms come from the plumber who sees the unit — not from the phone call.
The provider will confirm whether the request is within its service area and current capacity.
If this is urgent
For an active leak, shut off the cold water supply valve at the top of the heater before you call. If the water is near an electric unit, switch off its breaker at the panel rather than reaching past standing water. The leaking water heater page has the full sequence.
Leave the house first. Do not operate light switches on your way out. From outside, call your gas utility or 911. Make that call before calling anyone else, including us.
Pflugerville has two gas utilities, so it is worth checking which one bills you now rather than while you can smell gas. Atmos Energy serves the great majority of the city — 866-322-8667, answered 24 hours. SiEnergy, LP serves unincorporated addresses that carry Pflugerville mailing addresses — 888-468-7007.
Hours
Hours are confirmed at the time of your call. Availability and response time depend on the service provider and your location.
Permits and city contacts
Replacing a water heater is permitted work in Pflugerville, and the rule is state law rather than a local ordinance. Texas requires a permit for plumbing work in any city over 5,000 people, and water heaters are not on the short list of exempt jobs. Anyone doing the work for pay needs a state plumbing licence — which means a handyman may not. You may do it yourself in a home you own and occupy without holding a licence, but the permit still applies.
The City of Pflugerville Building Inspections & Permits administers it locally. The city does not publish a direct line for that desk or any water-heater-specific guidance, so start at its permits and building inspection page. Our permits and code page quotes the statute in full and covers the homeowner exception and what gets inspected.
Texas plumbers are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, which publishes a public license lookup. You can check any plumber’s licence yourself before they start.
Who you are reaching
This site is a consumer water heater resource. The number above connects you with an independent local service provider — not a company we own or operate — and we may be compensated for the referral. There is more detail on how this service works and in our privacy policy.
Common questions
Is there a contact form?
No. This site is phone-only. Water heater problems tend to be time-sensitive, and a short conversation gets a visit scheduled faster than a form and a callback.
Can you tell me what's wrong over the phone?
No. A phone call can narrow things down — the provider will ask about the symptom, the unit type, its age and where it sits — but water heaters are diagnosed in person. The call is where a visit gets scheduled, and the plumber works out what is actually wrong once they can see the unit.
What should I have ready before calling?
Whether the unit is gas or electric, tank or tankless, roughly how old it is, where it sits, and what it is actually doing. Knowing where the label is helps too — the model and serial number are on it.
What are your hours?
Hours are confirmed at the time of your call. Availability and response times depend on the service provider and your location, and we would rather not state a window the provider has not committed to.
